Day 1 Arebbusch Lodge Distance ± 30 km

Upon arrival at the international airport ( Hosea Kutako Airport ) you will collect your rental car and drive to Windhoek .
Your first overnight will be at the Arebush Lodge.

Depending how you feel after the long flight you can have dinner at Arebbush Lodge otherwise I would recommend Joe's Beerhouse.

• 1x overnight at Arebusch Lodge on bed and breakfast basis

Established in 1993, Arebbusch Travel Lodge is a privately owned and operated Rest Camp in Windhoek that offers a variety of quality accommodation at affordable prices in a clean, safe and natural setting. Situated on the banks of the dry Arebbusch River , the lodge nestles in natural surroundings yet is still within Windhoek 's municipal limits, far from the hustle and bustle of central city life, yet minutes away from the capital's shopping centers and attractions.

Day 2 Kalahari Anib Lodge Distance ± 280 km

Kalahari Anib Lodge lies like a lush green oasis in the midst of red Kalahari dunes. The restaurant and chalets are arranged around a shaded courtyard with a large swimming pool. 36 rooms with a private veranda are available for tour groups. For individual travellers there are 19 rooms, set slightly apart, with views of the open savannah and with a separate swimming pool. Located about 30 km northeast of Mariental the lodge makes for a perfect stopover on the way south.

• 1x overnight at Kalahari Anib Lodge on dinner, bed and breakfast basis

If you are looking for world records you have to see the Kalahari: it holds no less than four of them. It is the largest continuous stretch of sand on the planet. The landscape is characterised by red sand dunes which reach a height of about 15-30 metres and extend over hundreds of kilometres. Chains of dunes run parallel to one another, with considerable distances between them. Now and then pans can be found in the valleys. After good rains they fill up with water but rapidly dry up again.

The red crests of the dunes contrast picturesquely with the blue sky above and the yellow grass in the wide dune valleys, while acacias add shades of dark green to the amazing symphony of colours. This magnificent scenery is inhabited by animals like gemsbok, springbok, jackal and bat-eared fox.

And speaking of world records again: many camel thorn trees lend support to huge weaver bird nesting colonies – the largest nests on earth. In the dune valleys the heaviest flying bird, the Kori bustard, and the largest flightless bird, the ostrich, are found.

Day 3 Quivertree Restcamp Distance ± 270 km

The Quivertree Forest Rest Camp, located on the farm Gariganus just 13 km north-east of Keetmanshoop on road M29, offer tourists comfortable accommodation amid a pristine Namibian landscape.
There is a restaurant/bar in the main building. Breakfast and dinner are served from a set menu, but lunch can only be organized if booked in advance.
Accommodation is in either 1 of 2 guest houses, 8 Igloo bungalow's and 1 family room.

On the farm visitors can explore the ancient and famous Quivertree Forest and the dolerite rock formations of the Giants Playground at their leisure.

• 1x overnight at Quivertree Restcamp on dinner, bed and breakfast basis

The quiver trees are so named because the ancient Bushmen used to manufacture quivers from the bark from the trees, in which to carry their arrows. These trees are also known as Kokkerboom in Afrikaans, and they produce a bright yellow flower common in the southern Namib Desert and the Northern Cape of South Africa.

The trees in the forest are not trees at all. They do look like a weird kind of tree, but are in fact the genus Aloe, called Aloe dictoma in Latin.

The second site of interest in the area is the Giants Playground. Here you can see a massive collection of amazing Dolerite balancing rock formations, piled up on top of each other, primarily by millions of years of wind erosion. The Giants Playground is well-named, as visitors can just imagine giants playing with these massive stone toys.

Day 4+5 Canon Roadhouse Distance ± 250 km

Due to its elaborate décor Cañon Roadhouse has acquired a sort of cult status in Namibia: the good old days of the automobile are celebrated in the theme restaurant and bar. Enjoy a slice of our legendary Amarula cheesecake among coachwork arranged with loving care. The geology, flora, fauna and history of the area are explained on display boards at the Canyon Information Centre. Situated directly on the road to the Fish River Canyon, 14 km from the gate to the viewing points, Cañon Roadhouse offers 24 immaculate en-suite rooms with air conditioning, a swimming pool and a petrol station.

• 2x overnight at Canon Roadhouse on dinner, bed and breakfast basis

Its dimensions are enormous: 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and 500 m deep. The Fish River Canyon is seen as the largest canyon in Africa and second largest canyon on earth - after the Grand Canyon in the US . Just as impressive is the period of time during which it was formed: 350 million years ago a fault with a width of 20 km appeared and the river meandered through it in wide loops. When the ancient continent of Gondwana disintegrated 120 million years ago, the Fish River started to dig deep into the ground and create its system of gorges.

Day 6+7 Sossusvlei Desert Camp Distance ± 520 km

Depart early after breakfast as you have a long stretch today. Lunch packs will be prepared by Canon Lodge please take this along. At a nice spot you can enjoy your lunch on route. You should arrive at the lodge around 15h00.

Activities: Visit Sossusvlei, Dead vlei and Sesriem Canyon this you can book and do on your own.

Experience the desert beauty from a bird's eye view in a hot air balloon or by aircraft. Take a guided drive through scenic natural beauty in a custom built and comfortable all-terrain vehicle on the 40 000ha Taleni Africa private nature reserve. Partake in an exhilarating guided quad bike excursion on specially laid out trails and really get close to nature.

• 2x overnight at Sossusvlei Desert Camp on dinner, bed and breakfast basis

General Info: Sossusvlei is generally regarded as one of the most spectacular landscapes in Namibia . The ‘vlei' itself is situated at the point where the Tsauchab River dams up at the foot of a spectacular series of sand dunes, its route to the sea blocked.  The sand that makes up these massive dunes, amongst the biggest in the world, was carried here by the east winds from central Namibia and owe their distinctive overall colour to the presence of iron oxide, with streaks of black contributed by magnetite . To give you an idea where Sossusvlei is: You may enter the gate to Sossusvlei upon sun rise and still have to travel 63km to reach the well known “Sossusvlei” and “Deadvlei”.

Sesriem Canyon , on the Tsauchab River , gets its name from the days when the early travelers needed to draw water from the river in the canyon and, because of its depth, tied six leather thongs together, fastened a bucket to the end and lowered it to the pools below. In Afrikaans “ses is six and “riem” is the name for the leather thongs; hence Sesriem.

• Sesriem Canyon                                                        • Dunes at Sossusvlei

Namib Desert : At 20 million years old the Namib is seen as the oldest desert on earth. It covers the entire coastline in a strip about 100 km wide, from Angola down to South Africa . Due to many individual features, however, scientists regard the section south of Lüderitz as a separate desert - the Succulent Karoo. The central Namib consists of enormous mountains of sand; at the Sossusvlei clay pan you can climb the highest dunes on earth.

Rain is a rare occurrence in the Namib (5 to 85 mm per annum), but coastal fogs supply some moisture quite regularly. Summers can be very hot and winters very chilly. The dry rivers with their subterranean watercourses form oasis lines.

Plant life is dominated by annual grasses and herbs; shrubs and trees are usually found along dry rivers only. Typical animals are oryx antelope, springbok and ostrich.

Day 8-11 Alte Brücke Resort Distance ± 350 km

Alte Brücke Resort is situated within walking distance of the beach, near the Swakopmund Aquarium and one of the most popular resorts on the coast.

Day 12+13 Khorixas Rest Camp Distance ± 300 km

• 2x overnight at Khorixas Restcamp on dinner, bed and breakfast basis

General Info.: On your way to the Etosha National Park, visit the Twyfelfontein area which consists of the Rock paintings, pieces of the Peatrified” forest” and rockformation called orgal pipes, some Welwitschia plants are also to be seen. Welwitschia mirabilis in the Namib Desert of southwestern Africa . The two strap-shaped leaves have been shredded after many decades of thrashing in the desert wind. The leaves arise from a massive woody crown or trunk (caudex) in the center. it only grows in a remote region of southwestern Africa in the Namib and Mossamedes Deserts . Welwitschias are extraordinary plants and certainly rank among the top ten list of "most bizarre plants on earth."

• petrified forest                                 • organ pipes                                        • welwitschia plant

Day 14+15 Okaukuejo Distance ± 250 km

Okaukuejo restcamp is the largest of the three camps (the others are Halali and Namutoni) in Etosha. The camp is located 17km from Anderson Gate which is one of the main entrances to Etosha. Okaukuejo Resort is the oldest camp in Etosha. Okaukuejo restcamp offers all the facilities that you need. There is a shop, a curio shop, post office, restaurant, swimming pool, filling station and even an Internet café. The shop sells basic food items and drinks and is reasonably well stocked. If you're planning on braaing in Etosha and you can bring meat with you from outside the park then that would be your best option. The shop sells meat but the choice you have is limited and the quality is mediocre.

………the main attraction of Okaukuejo restcamp is the waterhole. For viewing wildlife in the daytime as well as at night it is probably one of the best, if not the best, waterhole in a national park in  Southern Africa . In the daytime you will always see lots of general wildlife at the waterhole as it is the main source of water in the Okaukuejo area. At night you have an almost 100% chance to see black rhinoceros drinking at the waterhole.

• 2x overnight at Okaukuejo Restcamp on bed and breakfast basis

Day 16 Halali Camp Distance ± 62 km

Halali is strategically located halfway between Okaukuejo and Namutoni in Namibia 's Etosha National Park . It is surrounded by some of the most popular water holes in the Park. The resorts name, of German origin, is derived from the bugle call made to announce the end of a hunt.

Halali has a secluded, scenic, flood-lit waterhole. Namutoni and Okaukuejo's waterholes are situated in the midst of the accommodation areas. At Halali, the waterhole is a short walk from the camp. The major benefit here is that you will not be disturbed or distracted when viewing the abundant game.

• 1x overnight at Halali Restcamp on bed and breakfast basis

Day 17 Namutoni Camp Distance ± 75 km

Namutoni is situated on the eastern side of Etosha pan, just inside the von Lindequist entrance to Etosha National Park . It is an improbably beautiful Beau Geste-style fort situated in an area dotted with graceful makalani palms, Hyphaene petersiana. It derives its name from the old German fort around which it is built and it overlooks the King Nehale waterhole. The presence of this fort undoubtedly gives Namutoni more character than the other rest camps inside the park.

It is also the closest restcamp to the picturesque Fischer's Pan, so expect great concentrations of waterbirds around here when it's wet – including a breeding colony of flamingos. An outbreak of rinderpest, (cattle plague) in the late 1890's wiped out entire herds of cattle, inflicting economic disaster and subsequent malnutrition in northern villages. A cordon measuring several hundred kilometres was set up and Namutoni became an outpost at one end of Etosha and Okaukuejo at the other. After the rinderpest was repressed Namutoni served as a frontier post, controlling the smuggling of arms and ammunition, liquor and supervising trade with the Ovambo people. It became a military post but was razed to the ground after an infamous attack by Chief Nehale's men, under the command of Captain Shivute. A second fort with 4 towers and 3 gates was built in 1905 and in 1906 First Lieutenant Adolf Fischer became the first game warden of Namutoni. The fort has also served as a German police post and a South African army base.Fort Namutoni was declared a national monument on 15th February 1950, when it was decided to use it as a tourist camp. Funds were made available to have it rebuilt along the old German design from instructions of the Historical Monuments Commission. In 1957 it opened its gates to tourists for the first time. The sunrise and sunset bugle calls are no longer sounded, but you can still get a great view of Etosha Park and the setting sun from the elevated deck walkways of the fort.

• 1x overnight at Namutoni Restcamp on bed and breakfast basis

Day 18+19 Ghaub Guestfarm Distance ± 200 km

Guest Farm Ghaub was once considered one of Namibias best kept secrets.A gem among jewels Ghaub has now established itself as one of the leading affordable family lodges in Northern Namibia.

Located in the Otavi mountain
range 450 Kilometres north of Windhoek near Tsumeb Ghaub is steeped in history as it was founded as a German Lutheran mission station in 1895. During the 1960s it was transformed into a working farm and then in the mid 1990s Ghaub was converted into a lodge while retaining much of the original character and design.Today it provides a spacious 10 twin room facility in a beautiful setting. The views from the verandah of each room are stunning and quite unique in this part of Namibia.Ghaub is a place where people come to relax and unwind

• 2x overnight at Ghaub Guestfarm on dinner, bed and breakfast basis

From Ghaub you can visit the caves on day of arrival in the afternoon. The next morning day you can visit the HOba Meteroriet and in the afternoon relax or go on a game drive at the Guestfarm.

Activities:
Cave: One- to five-hour walking trails meander across the farm, and the Ghaub Cave excursion explores the third-largest cave in Namibia , 38 m in depth with 2.5 km of chambers and passageways. Declared a national monument, the cave is a slippery, rock-clambering opportunity to experience ancient underworld growth. Stalactites and stalagmites glimmer and glow in their solidified water journeys. I am told that it takes a hundred years for one centimetre of stalactite to grow and realise that I'm seeing millions of years of rock history. Roots of camel-thorn trees hang down and water droplets seep into the underground cavern, glistening against the ancient rock.

The caves can only be visited with a guide and it takes between 1 to 2 hours.

Nature drive

Our farm drives can take between 2 and 3 hours with visits to the Bushmans engravings, game viewing, visit to the historic German cemetry, stop off at Uris fountain which is a haven for birds.followed by a sundowner at the highest point of the farm.

Hoba Meteoriet: 3-4 hour excursion: is a meteorite that lies on the farm "Hoba West", not far from Grootfontein, in the Otjozondjupa Region of Namibia . It has been uncovered but, because of its large mass, has never been moved from where it fell. The main mass is estimated at over 60 tons, and it is the largest known meteorite (as a single piece) and the most massive naturally-occurring piece of iron known at the Earth's surface. The Hoba meteorite is thought to have landed less than 80,000 years ago. It is inferred that the Earth's atmosphere slowed the object down to the point that it fell to the surface at terminal velocity, thereby remaining intact and causing little excavation. The meteorite is unusual in that it is flat on both major surfaces, possibly causing it to have skipped across the top of the atmosphere in the way a flat stone skips on water.
