Day 1: Bagatelle Game Ranch - Distance +- 270km

The Kalahari – an ancient living desert A harsh land, a land of relentless sun and searing wind – a land of great thirst and mystery. After the first rains, a land transformed into exquisite beauty with the dunes erupting in a blaze of colour! The Kalahari conjures up different images in the minds of different people. Some see it as a scorching desert. others see it as their future, built on cattle and sheep, ostriches and wildlife. The Kalahari is all of this, but also something more.

The word ‘Kalahari’ means wilderness! Its relative inaccessibility, the harsh unyielding red sand dunes, the uncertain rainfall and lack of surface water, make it truly one of Africa’s last frontiers.

Bagatelle - this French word refers to something small, of little consequence, not very important! The ranch is characterized by huge red sands dunes running parallel, and in a northern-westerly to south-easterly direction. The valleys in between the parallel dunes are commonly known as ‘streets’. This ‘Spirit of Africa’ atmosphere, coupled with service, delivered with graciousness and charm, in an unashamedly luxurious setting, will be the hallmarks of this establishment, providing excellent value and unforgettable memories. There is a swimming pool and recreation area. An open air lapa for outdoor meals captures the atmosphere of an African Safari.

• Facilities in rooms: Coffee / Tea Station; Air Conditioner; Roof Fan
• Activities: small library; swimming pool; nature drive; sundowner

• 1 x Overnight at Bagatelle Game Ranch on lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast

Day 2+3: Fish river Lodge - Distance +- 300km

Experience first hand the geological forces that unfolded 300 million years ago, when the Fish River began to etch its way through hard quartzite forming a Canyon 90 kilometers long, 549 meters deep and 28 kilometers wide in some places, making it the world's second largest canyon. Fish River Lodge in southern Namibia is the only lodge perched directly on the rim of the Fish River Canyon offering guests breathtaking views of the canyon from sunrise to sunset.
With 45 000 hectare situated in Canyon Nature Park, including 75 km of river frontage, here you have space to explore, time to relax and friendly staff to make you feel welcome. With only 8 meters from the rim of the Canyon, at Fish River Lodge you will truly feel as though you are on the edge of eternity.

• Facilities: Each chalet has a separate shower, dressing facility, double basins, toilet and fan whilst an additional outdoor shower offers a chance to cool down under the stars on warm nights. An outdoor 'bed' is available to guests who would like to sleep under the stars.

Allow your soul to be revived in this magnificent surrounding and enjoy a special feeling of endless freedom amongst shining red granite boulders. Listen to the secret ancestorial voices, which the echoing wind carries through the ancient valleys.

The name Koiimasis is derived from the former living San (bushmen) and means: "Place, where people meet." Enchanting sun-sets and bright, clear night skies present a feeling of serenity.

The Sossusvlei Lodge - practically situated right in front of the entrance gate to the Namib-Naukluft National Park (Sossusvlei) at Sesriem.

Activities: Sossusvlei, Deadvlei and sesriem Canyon - Sesriem Canyon, on the Tsauchab River, gets its name from the days when the early travelers needed to draw water from the river in the canyon and, because of its depth, tied six leather thongs together, fastened a bucket to the end and lowered it to the pools below. In Afrikaans “ses is six and “riem” is the name for the leather thongs; hence Sesriem

Day 7: Friday – 04.02.11 Amani Lodge Distance ± 390 km

After breakfast you will return to Windhoek. There are three well known and most frequently used passes the Gamsberg, Spreetshoogte and Remhoogte pass.

Probably the most spectacular and interesting road goes along C26 route via Gamsberg which has been nicknamed ''The Namibia's Table Mountain''. This is the longest and the highest pass in Namibia. The name derived for Nama word ''gan'' meaning ''flat on top''. The mountain with the same name has the height of 2350 m above sea level. The Gamsberg consists of approximately 990 million years old granite.

The Spreetshoogte is the steepest pass on the way to the Namib with sharp bends but the view from the top over the Namib is most rewarding. Namibia has basically three very distinct topographical areas. Inland a 2.000 meters high central plateau runs north to south. To the west of this plateau, the land drops off a dramatic escarpment to the Namib Desert. It is absolutely spectacular at Spreetshoogte Pass.

On your return route to Windhoek a stop at Solitair is worthwhile.
Solitair is a small settlement and has a fuel station which is manned daylight hours and the provisions shop opens until quite late. It's here that you might catch a glimpse of Big-Moose who bakes the 'Moose Bread' and the renowned apple crumble.

Amani Lodge has created a home and rehabilitation program for big cats and everyone at Amani is proud to be able to share this project with you.

The "Big Cats’ Experience" is offered as an afternoon excursion during which one can enjoy the beauties of these majestic animals in their natural environment. (It starts at 16h30 in the afternoon – make sure you leave the Sossusvlei Lodge not later than 9h00 in the morning.)

On this unforgettable journey you will have the opportunity to meet the following animals: Wild cheetahs that are due to be released back into the wild; Two Kalahari Lions, Bongani and Surabi and if you are very lucky, Raffiki the illusive leopard.

To end this magical afternoon, you are invited for a Champagne Sundowner, facing the colorful African Sunset.
Situated 20kms south-west of Windhoek, Amani Lodge is entirely surrounded by the Namibian veld and the wonderful Khomas Hochland Mountains, which offer spectacular 360° views. Set at an altitude of 2150 meters, it is the highest lodge in Namibia.
