Namutoni Resort - Namibia Wildlife Resorts - Located in the eastern region of the Etosha National Park, the
Namutoni Rest Camp was first constructed as a fort by the Germans. The first fort, a six roomed building was erected
during 1902. In 1904, however it was totally destroyed by Owambo raiders. In 1906 it was rebuilt and considerably
enlarged and the fort never again came under attack. From 1910 onwards it served periodically as a police post but
eventually fell into disuse. It was however rebuilt in 1956 according to its original design and opened in 1958 as a
tourist camp.
Facilities at the rest camp include a restaurant, shop, post office, swimming pool and filling station.

Day 4 & 5:

Etosha National Park Okaukuejo or similar (camping) Full Board
Two full days can be spend in the Etosha National Park exploring the Etosha. Look out for the mighty Elephant, the
Lion king of the bush, the Rhino and many more other antelopes and animals.

Your guide can pre pare Lunch at one of the water hole such as “Olifants Bad” or “Nuamses”. Today’s Etosha National Park was proclaimed as Namibia’s first conservation area in 1907 by the then German government and is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. Consisting of saline desert, savannah and woodlands, its definitive feature is the Etosha Pan, a vast shallow depression.

For the greater part of the year the pan is a bleak expanse of white, cracked mud which, on most days shimmers with
mirages. Seeing vast herds of game against this eerie backdrop, referred to in the local vernacular as the ‘great white
place of dry water’, makes the Etosha game-viewing a unique experience. Of the 114 mammal species found in the park, several are rare and endangered, such as black rhino, cheetah and
black-faced impala. Etosha’s current population of more than 700 black rhino represents one of the few growing
populations of black rhino in the world.

About 340 bird species occur in Etosha, about one third being migratory. For the greater part of the year (the dry
season) Etosha’s animals and birds are dependent on about 30 springs and waterholes. These provide excellent
game viewing and photographic opportunities. During the rainy season, especially the bird life at the main pan and
Fischer’s Pan is worth viewing.

Okaukuejo is the main administrative camp of the Etosha National Park, and was officially opened for visitors in 1957.
A variety of accommodation is available from self-catering chalet units to twin bedded bungalows.

Facilities at the rest camp include a restaurant, shop, post office, swimming pool and filling station. Okaukuejo is also
home to the Ecological Institute, which is responsible for the research and management of the park. The Okaukuejo
waterhole is probably one of the most renowned waterholes in the park. The presence of game is seasonal but winter
offers game enthusiasts a unique experience as the illuminated waterhole is situated next to the camp. Common
sightings include large herds of elephant, black rhino, lion, cheetah, brown hyena, Burchells and Hartman’s Mountain
Zebra, Gnu and numerous antelope species.

The Himba - An ancient tribe of semi-nomadic pastoralists, many of whom still live and dress according to ancient
traditions, the Himba live in scattered settlements throughout the Kunene Region. They are a tall, slender and
statuesque people, characterised especially by their proud yet friendly bearing. The women especially are noted for
their unusual sculptural beauty, enhanced by intricate hairstyles and traditional adornments. They rub their bodies with
red ochre and fat, a treatment that protects their skins against the harsh desert climate.
The homes of the Himba are simple, cone-shaped structures of saplings, bound together with palm leaves and
plastered with mud and dung. A family may move from one home to another several times a year to seek grazing for
their goats and cattle. Men, women and children adorn themselves with necklaces, bracelets, anklets and belts made
from iron and shell beads with unusual and striking designs. These are becoming items of commercial value and are
being produced on a small scale for the urban market. Sculptural headrests in particular are sought-after items.

Day 10

Damaraland North-Damaraland South , Brandberg (camping) ,Full Board

Early Breakfast and depart Palmwag Lodge and continue driving to Twyfelfontein. Before continue driving to Brandberg visit the Rock Engravings of Twyfelfontein, Organ Pipes and the Burnt Mountain.

Late afternoon arrival at Brandberg.

The Twyfelfontein area, being a very vulnerable and delicateeco system, is renowned for some of the best examples
of Bushman paintings and rock engravings in southern Africa and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Interesting rock formations and the remainder of prehistoric volcanic action can be seen among the most prominent geographic features including the Organ Pipes, Burnt Mountain, Doros Crater and the Petrified Forest. The fauna and flora of Damaraland is typical of the Pro-Namib region and plant species include the magnificent Welwitschia, and a variety of the Commiphora species. The Desert adapted Elephant, Giraffe, Springbok, Zebra, Oryx, and Ostrich include some of the wildlife which can be found living in total harmony with the community. The Lodge is situated in the heart of the Twyfelfontein Uibasen Conservancy and boast 56 en-suite twin rooms, reception, lounge, curio shop, open dining room, bar and swimming pool. In construction utmost care was taken to reduce the visual impact on the environment and to blend into the mountainside with the use of thatch roofs, natural stone and paint colours toning in with the surrounding rock formations.

Twyfelfontein to see the rock engravings – amongst African rock-art sites, Twyfelfontein is unusual in having both
engravings and paintings. Many are of animals and their spoor, or geometric motifs – which have been suggested as
maps to water sources. Why they were made, nobody knows. Perhaps they were part of the people’s spiritual ceremonies, perhaps it was an ancient nursery to teach their children, or perhaps they were simply doodling....

Organ Pipes - Returning on the road 3254 site of Organ Pipes can be reached in about 3 kilometres on. This mass of
perpendicular dolerite pillars are located down the river bed. Formed by the intrusion of volcanic rock dolerite about 120 million years ago.

Burnt Mountain
- The Burnt Mountain is located another couple kilometres from the site of Organ Pipes and visible
from the road. The Karoo limestones which formed the mountain were deposited around 200 million years ago. About
120 million years ago, the same period when Organ Pipes were formed, volcanic lava intruded limestones and caused
metamorphism giving the mountain its distinctive colour.
